The grain is closed, with high figuring, and patterns range from clear to knotty. Southern Yellow Pine is indigenous to North America and is typically found growing in the coastal plain of the Southeast. There are variations within the species and include Longleaf Pine ( P. palustris), Shortleaf Pine (P. echinata), Loblolly Pine ( P. taeda), and Slash Pine (P. elliottii).
