Hickory

Unfinished Solid

Attributes

Hickory is native to North America and is the heaviest of American hardwoods. Hickory sapwood is white to cream in color; its heartwood is tan or reddish. There are usually marked differences in color between spring wood and summer wood. Hickory has a closed grain with moderate definition and is fairly rough-textured. Note: Hickory can be hard to work with using hand tools, so pre-drilling is suggested.

Ideal For

Flooring and furniture where structural strength or a thin veneer is needed, as Hickory is a highly durable wood with moderate bending and crushing strengths. Also used for architectural millwork, doors, and gunstocks.
