Walnut
Unfinished EngineeredAttributes
Engineered hardwoods are built with multiple ply layers that are cross layered, glued and pressed together. The decorative wood species fused on top is commonly known as the wear layer. American Black Walnut (juglans nigra) has a heartwood which ranges from a deep, rich dark brown to a purplish black; the sapwood is between almost white and tan in color. The variation from heartwood to sapwood is such that some flooring manufacturers steam Walnut lumber to bleed the darker heartwood hues into the sapwood, thus achieving more color homogeneity. The grain is mostly straight and open, though there are also burled or curly grains.
